Project 905
Situated on a busy street in a residential neighbourhood, the brief was to design a building renovation that will have curb appeal, address the noise levels from the street and accommodate a small home enterprise.
The design solution came from the addition of a new street facade 1,7 meters in front of the existing house. This new addition accommodates a variety of interventions to address the set of requirements through simple yet effective design solutions.
To reduce noise levels the first and basic intervention is a solid barrier. This was done by constructing a solid wall that prevents noise from traveling into the building. Where openings are located the walls were placed diagonally to divert as much of the noise away from the opening. Larger windows and doors were installed and the inside of the building were stripped away as much as possible to accommodate a new open plan office space.
The combination of interventions of the addition created a new curb appeal that is in keeping with the residential context.
